TRILOGY

Blogging about a fifteen year old video when the majority of the blogs readers are 15-20 seems a bit pointless, but i'm gonna anyway.

Trilogy was sick when it came out, its still sick now, all of the skaters on the teams featured were rad, apart from Kasper stinking up the place but hey I can forgive them for that (if you don't know who Josh Kasper is he once said in an interview that his ultimate demo would involve him riding in on a Harley, doing a trick over the Harley, probabaly a Benihana, then getting helicoptered out - hell on earth)

Quartersnacks, the guys who've uploaded this, have rather accurately said that Kareem Campbell seems to be better known for his appearrance in THPS than his skateboarding to younger skaters, but Kareem was one of the skaters in the mid to late 90s that was taking skateboarding away from the low to the ground, stinking pressure flip variations of the early 90s and back to what looks good: Pop, Speed, Style. Away from the dorkiness, and frankly crappy looking tricks and taking it back to pure street shredding, anyone who ollies over oil drums in lines is rad, and if you needed any more of a lesson in style did I mention Gino Iannucci has a part too?

Just watch the damn thing and then complain that its not as good as whoever it is you like now, but bear in mind this was from a time when million dollar contracts just didn't happen, generators and HD were no where to be seen and you were far more likely to see a blunt in Kareems hand than a frickin energy drink from his latest sponsor - Kareem, you are dope.

Oh and Kareem pretty much invented the Ghetto Bird - I believe his signature trick in the TH games, although I was skateboarding rather than playing games so I couldn't be sure, its a Nollie hardflip revert, and Kareem did AMAZING ones. If you don't know where the term comes from a Ghetto Bird is a helicopter that circles over Ghettos, originally in LA, they very regularly get shot at and have to be bullet proof on the underside, there you go, you've learnt something today.

When people turn pro they tend to have a clip to say so, in case you were in any doubt he deserves it Anthony Schultz has put this out, ridiculous! Usually using a motorbike is a bit xtreme dude fest, but when you couldn't physically get enough speed then I think that ollie warrants it! Absolutely huge!

We got our first bunch of PALACE decks and clothing in last week, and they just happened to put up this edit of the PALACE crew hitting up some spots in NYC, any video with Chewy Cannon in is good in my eyes, and they have filmed it all on old school VHS style cameras, giving it an old feel like the OG Zoo York Mixtape video of just rinsing through the streets.

Contests are kinda boring generally, there are a bunch of guys that skate at just the right speed to do the tricks they need to do, and cos they wanna land everything half the time you know what tricks they are gonna do.
Thena along comes Dennis Busenitz at this years Tampa Pro, having apparently only turned up for one day, breezed throught this ridiculous run at Busenitz speed and won the contest, if you aren't hyped for the Real video you are an idiot, plain and simple!
The whole of the Real team shred and Dennis is a true skaters skater, no one dislikes Dennis Busenitz.

Love Park Documentary - DGK

This was a really well made film about the history of LOVE park, and it only used to be on VHS, thankfully the lovely people at Quartersnacks have now put the whole thing online, if you wanna know about real skateboarding here is a good place to start!

Someone asked me the other day how we decide which decks to get in, basically if someone is doing something creative that is pushing skateboarding forward you can bet we'll have their board! thats why we have new decks from Guru Khalsa, Chris Troy, Justin Brock and Kenny Hoyle, all of them have had solid video parts, so if you wanna support them then pick up one of the decks!

So the blog hasn't been updated in a while, you should have been getting your fix of news from the Facebook box on the Reskue sites frontpage, but there has been so much happening at the shop we haven't posted many videos up, so here is a whole bunch to keep you stoked on skating:

And finally! If you have made it this far, some news on the Reskue video! For some reason I had some of you thinking there was a premiere booked, i'm not sure where this has come from?! But anyway, I know I say this all the time but it is very nearly done, a lot of the guys weren't too happy with the "Remix" idea of old footage, and so they now have almost entirely new parts! Pagets is Finished, Cams is finished and even Joshes is very close to being completed! Obviously it hasn't been the best weather for filming so we are struggling on the last few tricks, our new team rider has tweaked his ankle three times while trying to get footage, but his part with Mike isn't gonna dissapoint! Mike has just nipped over to New Zealand for a few weeks and as soon as he is back with what is bound to be some sick footage then its done, thats if it is dry at least once in a few weeks for us to film here!
The guys even managed to organise themselves enough for a filming trip to London the other week!

So the guys who went to Barcelona are back, Joe Paget, Josh Clark, Cam Butterworth, new addition Mike Halls and sticker flow Ray Ray all killed it out there! I was a bit worried that with a place like Barcelona that has been skated by pretty much all pros, that it would be hard to get tricks that weren't ABD years ago, but Paget came up trumps! We are now working on finishing off the edits for the Reskue video and HOPEFULLY it should be finished pretty soon! The trip inspired them all to get a last few tricks back here in the UK, so as long as it stops raining for a while we are pretty much done! For Photos of the trip check out our Facebook!

As well as this there have been a bunch of rad videos popping up in internet land, as well as the team trawling the web trying to find videos of some Barca spots, here are a few:

First Phil Zwijsen, I think I posted some of him before, but the guy kills it, speedy skateboarding always looks good!

The spot at the end of the last video is awesome, we all missioned out into the suburbs of Barca to find it, but I needed to catch a plane so it ended up with myself and Josh getting quick lines, but some of the stuff that has been done there is ridiculous!

Aaron Herrington

I'm gonna do what I always seem to end up doing on this blog and hype something that is nothing to do with the shop, ah well its all skateboarding, and good skateboarding to.

I have seen a few videos of Aaron Herrington, and wondered where he was getting all the footage from, surely he hasn't put out three parts in a year?! But yeah I guess he has, crusing street steez and interesting spots, definitely a winner!

This is a wierd one, basically the companies involved have the chance to make an obstacle, and in skateboarder fashion they all try and outdo each other with the ridiculous gnarliness of each thing, the Zero contraption looks like its hungry for injuries, and the Foundation thing just looks like it wants to break legs, but somehow people get through it relatively unscathed! Having said that there are plenty of slams involved to!

As usual there hasn't been a post on here in a while, we are kinda going with the Facebook as it is on the front page of the website and you can comment etc, and we like to know what you think!

I hope by now you have all seen the Romsey jam video and the new trick tips, if not you can link from the Facebook box, but here are a few more videos for you too:

As usual I have been getting a lot of questions about the Reskue video, and also some kids asking if we are making one! Dunno where they have been for the past few years?!

Either way it is actually making progress, i'm well aware it keeps getting put back!

First because of Greg arriving with months worth of travel footage which I quickly made into a rad section!
Then Cam came back from New Zealand, went through about fifty tapes and has a strong section but wanted more, and has been killin it!
Then there is the fact that Josh and I very rarely get footage!
Darren finished off his section last night however, and with a trip to Barcelona coming up in two weeks time that is now the (supposed) deadline for Cam, Josh and myself!

We also have a couple of new team riders which already have some banging footage, but haven't put out a welcome clip and will let their (probably combo) section in the video do the talking! Jed is also pretty keen to film a bunch as he has been killing it lately, and thats about it, this could actually be happening!

The video was meant to be the Reskue Remix, taking a bunch of footage and remixing it into new parts just to show the new generation of skaters in Southampton what the squad have been up to, but now some people have all new sections, so we need a new name for the video! Let us know if you have any ideas!

Skateboarding - Dylan Rieder - Youness Amrani

You may have noticed (if you follow the blog through the Reskue site) that the website has had some pretty big changes going on lately, we have streamlined the butttons to make it easier for you to find exactly what you want, but the best addition for news hungry people is the Facebook box, if you aren't already a fan on Facebook then you should add yourself, however if you aren't a Facebook member all the news and links still come up and you can see the latest from the shop on the front page of the website. Bearing this in mind the blog is now just going to be used for team stuff and skate videos and news, and as this hasn't been updated in a while there is quite a lot!

The first thing we have been doing is making some little trick tip videos, for the guys that have been skating a while tip videos seem a bit cheesy, but we all started somewhere, and anything that might help local skaters progress is a good thing!
Here are the first three:

We took a bit of a leap between ollies and kickflips, there are a bunch of tricks that are easier than kickflips but that has been the most requested trick, if there are any tricks you'd really like a tip for post it on our Facebook wall and we'll see what we can do!

The main video we have all been loving is this part from Dylan Rieder, Dylans part in Mindfield was awesome, and to come out with a full part relatively soon after that is pretty sick, a lot of kids don't realise how long it takes to film a part, a year is a pretty short time in the world of video making!

This video will make you realise, if you didn't already, how important style is in skateboarding, look at things like the flip out of the tailslide, which appears to pop a good 8 inches higher than the block and is caught, i'm sure lots of people can flip out of tailslides, but not many people as good as that! Pretty much every trick is an absolute banger, and even simple tricks like the wallride look sick just cos of how high he goes! Tricks longer or higher than you expect look awesome, and this part is gonna be pretty timeless, a lot kids now days seem to be trying to emulate combo tricks from pros, before they can do the two tricks seperately!

One of my favourite skate websites, Quartersnacks, made a video of some of the Nike SB team as they were shooting for P Rods new shoe release, the edit is sick, and for the people that don't know who Youness Amrani is, you need to!

Nuff said really! This event needs your support! If we get a bunch of people down there then it will show there is a need for an indoor park in the South! Tell your mates and pimp the Facebook event, this needs to be rammed!

In other news filming for the Reskue vid has been going well-ish, we had a little re-edit of Darrens part the other night, he only has 3 tricks from his original part in there now! Basically if you take Darren to a set of stairs he'll either do a trick in a few tries, or snap his board. Cam has easily enough footage for a part including some ridiculous enders which Ranny shot for a possible well deserved First Light in Sidewalk! I'm going to be going over to the Isle Of Wight to finish filming Darren and hopefully get some tricks! And then we are DONE! Only a year or two late, but thats what happens when you work every single day!

I have been slacking emmensely on the blog again, apologies! There has been a lot of team action going on though, which hopefully you will see the fruits of real soon! Filming with Josh and Cam for the Reskue Remix video has been going well, footage has been racking up and when Josh has as many tricks as he has slams its gonna be a banger, combined with Cams part which is gonna be huge! Paget and Darren have been on some trips with Ranny to get photos, potentially for Sidewalk. You may have noticed we were open a bit late last Sunday, this was because we got up early to go film/photograph Darren hitting up a huge rough gap, the Reskue squad aren't messing about! We are really trying to get some bangers for you guys to peruse over your Coco Pops! Hopefully the video will be finished in the next month and you'll all be stoked on the new footage! Cam has his ender and trust me its a banger!

I have had a few people say I should just put the finished parts up online, as Greg,Marc,Paget and Curtis have had full parts for almost a year! But I have been adding to them and I want the whole team to be checked out in its entirety, Darren gets new footage all the time and Paget has been getting a few bits after his injury, but its all coming together and should be done very soon!

It seems videos used to mean a lot more when they weren't online, owning a video which you paid for meant you watched the video religiously and really studied it knowing every trick.
One of the last big videos before the DVD revolution was Menikmati from eS, I seriously loved this video, all the music was original and didn't have any vocals to detract from the skating, Fred Mortagne who filmed and edited the video is easily one of the best skate videographers, all of the timing on Kostons part is amazing and perfectly in time with the music. It is wierd to think this came out 10 years ago as a lot of it is still really really good now, its interesting to look at the trick selection now compared to ten years ago, some of the slow mo tricks are now fillers, yet some of the gnarlier handrail stuff hasn't been met to this day, Arto was at the peak of his skating at this point, the El Toro front board is crazy, and the switch front board in a line is bangin, in fact its the same rail Marissa does a regular front board in the Zero video which only just came out, Arto kills it!
eS have put the entire video up on its site in a celebration of its history, and here it is, take some time to watch it, especially Kostons section, and get inspired!

You may have heard if you have been following the 7 Southern Districts park that it is looking like it will now be in Andover, which isn't so bad, its about half an hour drive from Southampton. Marc Churchills ideas for the park sound awesome, and it is still a possibility that we will have a Reskue in there too! They are having a jam/BBQ thing at the current Andover park site HERE is the Facebook event, invite all your mates!

I've been slacking again, but that only means we've been busy here getting a bunch of new product out, and to be honest i'm not sure what news could top how good that SB demo is going to be!

We have had some new Nike SB Blazers in black with a grey tick, and some sick new Spitfire/Vans collabo Era pros, we should have some new Fallens arriving next week too, and will be getting new footwear far more regularly from now on hopefully, including Adidas Skateboarding! The July Adidas have already started to ship to U.S. stores, so should be arriving with us very soon, and i'm pretty excited about this, there is a rad new Silas Baxter Neal pro shoe, and some sweet Pete Eldridge superstars coming, Adidas have some timeless styles so having them in pro skaters colorways exclusive to skate shops is awesome! Check out the Adidas skateboarding website HERE! and save some pennies because they are all very limited edition and once they are gone, they are gone!

This has cranked my day! The Nike SB team is amazing, a diverse group of awesome skaters, and they are gonna be doing a demo at Bay 66 at the end of the month! Seeing Omar hossing about would be rad, the P Rod consistency, Wiegers Heelflippings, Cory Kennedys ridiculousness, and Nuggets killers, topped off with some Lance Mountain! This is the demo of the year for sure!

So there are a whole bunch of new skaters about, this is awesome! Good weather always brings people out of retirement or starts kids off with skating, but heand in hand with this I have had loads of kids ask me how to do tricks lately, obviously there is only so much I can show being insside a shop! So I have decided we are gonna do some trick tips videos, Darren, Greg, Cam, Josh and Joe have all agreed to show you some tricks, so I thought we'd start it off with the good old ollie, so here is Darren giving you some pointers:

I'm, pleased to say we have had a whole bunch of new hardware instore, including the first Witchcraft boards, all of which are 8"+ and on DLX wood so really good quality! As well as these we also have some Crayon ltd edition boards, including a Pete Fowler design and Super Furry Animals collab deck! Couple this with restock of the Real Lotto decks, Krooked price point decks and Stereo decks and there is heck of a lot of choice instore at the moment!

Cam in his 50 tape delving has made a little edit of an abingdon session from a while back, check out Cam and Joshy as well as Reskue lurker Dan Lilley.

Maloof! or Mall? Oof!

So this years Maloof Money Cup finished yesterday, and as my amazing title (I normally do the Sun headlines) suggests there are a lot of mixed feelings about this sort of thing, the corporate world entering ours, and some people think they are just using the image of skateboarding to sell products, Chris Cole probably wouldn't agree! He earnt $100,000 in a few hours this weekend!

The problem with corporate, TV friendly contests, is that they are gonna happen, regardless of what anyone says or does! It is just something we have to put up with! So surely it is better if the courses are designed by skaters, a skatepark gets left up afterwards for people to use, and the prize money actually makes it worth trying some amazing stuff, rather than feeling like a performing monkey that people are making money out of?

Maloof was sponsored by Volcom and Vans, both legit skate companies, and the best skaters in the world got invites, not some random contest pros you've never heard of, just the street skaters you love from videos. We were discussing drinks sponsors for a while today, its a wierd one, kids like Chaz Ortiz, who isn't even pro for Zoo York yet, reportedly gets over $100,000 a year from Gatorade, thats more than a chunk of pros get from their board sponsor! But while it is a corporate sponsor, we all drink drinks! If you can get paid to do it, and it doesn't take money away from any other side of skateboarding then whats the problem? Some people would argue that it is worse being on a corporate shoe or board sponsor, because thats money that could have gone to a skater owned company? Whatever your opinion on this there is no denying that the skateboarding at Maloof was ridiculous!

On a closer to home tip I went with Josh and Cam from the Reskue squad last night to try and get some footage for the Reskue vid, Cam slays it, and has now been through 50 tapes of footage and we are gonna start editing his section together, Joshys is also coming on too, and even I got a few tricks last night! Hopefully they are gonna be hyped after Maloof, I know Darren is and wants to get his gnar on, he'd boneless of roofs every day if bloody Faithless didn't get in the way! But thats a different story....

My updates got slack as soon as they got good again! But as you know that means we have been busy here, real busy in fact! Which is rad! Glad lots of you have been getting back into skating with the good weather!

We are expecting our LRG to arrive any day now, along with some Nike SB Janoskis in black, and some Bruins.
Some fresh boards from Harmony and DGK should also be here tomorrow, and some Flip and Santa Cruz sale boards arriving Thurs/Friday.

We have had some rad visits from some homies in the last week, RX bandits played in Southampton, and they are all friends of Reskue lurker Matt Reynolds after his band supported them a few times, turns out the singers brother who was doing merch was on a flow for Furnace skate shop over in Seal Beach, and so skates with Johnny Layton and some Long Beach types over there, so we spent quite a while talking about all those guys. Speaking to skaters from different places is pretty much my favourite thing to do so that was rad! Here are some videos from his neck of the woods:

Shop rider Joe Paget who unfortunately broke his wrist a month ago now while trying to get a photo for a First Light has been working on getting back to full strength, and should hopefully be back shredding in the next week or so, he was noticably absent from the Gang Warily edit so lets hope he gets back on it and starts repping Zoo York and Thunder, and gets a photo for Sidewalk! The sequence he has is sickness, so get back on getting a still Joe!

Speaking of Zoo york they put out a little video of some of their flow kids, and its really really good! It took me by surprise a bit to be honest! Kevin Tierney is sick!

I'm a big fan of Jon Allie, couple his skating with Slayer and you are on to a good thing!

Pat Burke is sick, i'm glad you guys have started to realise how rad Slave is!

This is pretty bad quality for some reason but its from a contest where you had 6 hrs to film as much as you could, its bloody good considering it was all in six hours! Although that blunt, foot swap, jump off thing, I think is one of the worst tricks in skateboarding, kids DON'T DO IT! Well you can if you like, but make sure you do a flip rock fakie, a roast beef and a fakie bigspin rock n roll as well to achieve maximum props!

In skate news I have preordered some decks from Witchcraft as well as the ltd edition Crayon/Super Furry Animals colab board, they should all be here in the beginning of June so be ready, they will go quickly! We should also have a bunch of Zero and Slave boards at the end of next week, along with the Slash Fallen shoe and a new Forte. Good times.

Shoreham Skatepark!

I mentioned this park a while ago while it was being built, but its finally finished! The bowl looks awesome and it has been given a big thumbs up from Tibs who has already been to check it out, it has "tile" pressed into the concrete for a genuine pool feel, along with pool coping from the same place that made Lance Mountains pool! It doesn't get much better than that! If this is your thing then maybe look on HERE and get yourself down there on friday!

Regular blog readers may have noticed it looks slightly better now, videos actually fit in! For some reason I hadn't bothered fiddling with the code before and they would get cut off, but a bit of HTML scouring and its all good! This has made me wanna get back on the blogging again, and I think once a week i'm gonna take an in depth look at a legendary skater, and there is none more legendary in Southampton than Don Brider!

Fifty Fifty grind, or as the caption says, double axle scrape.

In 1990 I got a book called "Skateboarding Is Not A Book" it basically told you all about skateboarding at the time, and in amongst all the photos of vert skaters in tiny shorts and Rob Roskopp puking there was a photo of a group of guys skating along by a fountain in France, I thought it was kinda crap at the time, they were just going along?! Then when I read the book it kinda explained that the journey and travelling with your friends, and discovering new places, is half the fun of Skateboarding. Kinda wierd to be reading this when you're ten and Kickflips are the only thing people seem to care about, but not as wierd that years later I found out this was Don Brider.

Don started skating before you could buy skateboards, he was one of the people that bought a commercial skateboard the first time they were available, and after the first boom and bust of skating product was really hard to get hold of, he used to mail order Vans, which would take about six weeks to arrive and you would buy based on a black and white line drawing.

Don got good at skating, very good for the time, most people I have spoken to from that era say that Dons Bonelesses were something of legend, and with skateboarding having such a small following Don found cult status pretty quickly, mainly because he wasn't a vert skater, he was a street skater, and pioneering one at that! All the photos in mags were of vert ramps and comps, but photos of Don were of Wallrides and Bonelesses on the streets, or street sections of parks. I guess people could relate to this a bit more and with british skateboard videos and companies being close to non existent Don started to make his own stuff. Funnily enough when Don did skate vert he did his frontside grinds differently to everyone else, with the board scraping along the coping, this was then claimed by Mike Smith as a Smith grind, even though Don had been doing grinds like this before. So yeah, Don invented Smith Grinds!

Don once showed me the first thing he ever screen printed, it was a stupidly complex picture of a moped thing on a tee shirt, he still has it hung up, Don never makes things easy on himself. Don got sponsored by a company called Brand X, but rather than just riding for them he helped them with a lot of the company. He also started Wear and Tear clothing and also made Victim Street Wear tees, a comment on the commercial, some would say sell out, nature of Vision street wear at the time, the original sell your soul to MTV type of brand. Vision was pretty hated on by core skaters but Don was perhaps the first to attack them, with Mark Gonzales following closely behind (I think) starting Blind skateboards, the opposite of Vision.

At one point Don skated through a schoolyard in Southampton and did a Wallride, a young BMXer saw this and instantly wanted to start skating, the BMXer was Greg Nowik.
Greg quickly become Dons protoge and Don helped in getting Greg Sponsored early on, by BASH skateboards - the sister company of Deathbox. Deathbox was started by Ian Deacon and Jeremy Fox and had a famous logo of a teapot, Don printed the first stickers for the company and still has the die cutter for the teapot shape at home. In the early to mid nineties skateboarding was on the decline after another boom and the guys at Deathbox realised that for them to survive they may have to move to the heart of the skateboard industry, California.

Both Greg and Don had the opportunity to move to America with Deathbox, which upon the move changed its name to Flip skateboards, but both of them chose to stay with their families, and Don continued to print stickers and boards for shops and small companies. Don started Blackmarket skateboards, and sponsored Greg, Blackmarket was a cheaper alternative to buying a U.S. board and loads of guys you speak to in Southampton now would tell you that Blackmarket was their first proper deck.

When Death started Don printed some of their boards, and has printed stickers for most of the core skate shops in the country, along with tee shirts and decks, he always undercharges too, making very little off of any printing jobs he does, in order to keep things cheap for the shops and companies.
He still speaks to the owners of Flip and will always be flowed some boards and stuff by them, so thats why he is always rocking Flip gear.

I wish there were video parts of Don, but you'll have to make do with these photos, I remember when I learnt wallrides I was looking for a set of stairs to wallride down and Don mentioned there was a 5 set at a cinema in Andover, I thought it was a bit random that he knew this and asked why, and he said because he had done it in the eighties! That is still a pretty legit trick now so you could say his skating was ahead of its time, or tricks are just regressing to what looks good, but Don was amazing at Wallrides, any no Comply variation and the Boneless! I still don't really understand his Stalefish Bonelesses, maybe try one next time you go skating, it makes no sense.

Someone once said to me Don was the best street skater in the country, then the ollie came in and he was f****d, whether this is true or not Don was still progressing with modern street skating into the 90s and could do a few flip tricks, there aren't many people that can kickflip into their forties!
Skating with Don a few years ago he was still doing Noseslide to K grinds, and I was witness to a Frontside Noseslide, back noseblunt pop over on a rail, a legit trick for now!

A lot of these photos are from RAD magazine, an old UK skate mag, Don was in it regularly and also wrote articles for it, the first skate magazine I ever bought had an article from Don about searching out spots, and had a young Alex Moul doing a boardslide down a ledge at Asda in Southampton! Don has inspired so many people with his skating that he is a true unsung legend, Greg would perhaps not even have skated without Don!

Don also built spots and ramps, the most well known being Dead Rabbits, a mini ramp with additional quarters on the platforms, a pretty cool design which opened up a whole lot of possibilities. Wallride at the legendary Wandsworth Roundabout spot, this is where the opening of Clockwork Orange is filmed, where Alex and friends beat up the old man, if you have no idea what i'm on about then you should watch that too!

Shop wise we have had quite a bit of new stuff, restock on the Carhartt gear, including bigger sizes in all the jeans and shorts! We have had a whole bunch of Anti Hero, Krooked, Real, Thunder and Indy tees that are all 2 for £25! Easily the best deal around for tees, and only while stocks last so be quick! To go hand in hand with this we have the new series of Real decks, which feature a scratch off panel which can win you shoes, decks, tees and a bunch of other stuff, a pretty cool idea from Real! There is also a few decks from Krooked and Anti Hero too, all the DLX boards are really good shapes, and nice poppy wood, we recommend em!

Skate wise we have been visiting Gang Warily a lot, its real small but super smooth and pretty fun when people aren't sat on all the ramps! Here is a little edit made up of a few sessions there:

Unfortunately we didn't manage to film a K Grind, or the Mosher back board, before we got kicked out, just one of the reasons the mythical Reskue Remix video is taking so long!
One of the other reasons was the introduction of Cam to the team, Cam rules, and I want you guys to see this! When I put him on he said he had enough footage for two video parts, but needed to go through all his tapes to get it, this is taking a while! But once its done you can look forward to a full length Cam and Josh clark part! I tentatively say we'll have it ready for Reskues third birthday 27th June.

The Gang Warily edit is coming along ok too, we have had a bit of bad luck with the weather, combined with the fact the locals think the curved block is a bench and don't seem to have seen a video camera before, but its getting there! Tate Mode kills the place!

It seems like there are a bunch of rad parks popping up at the moment! Our friends down in Prime, Plymouths SOS have opened their own park and are having an opening jam this weekend, as well as a new park down in Taunton which looks pretty sick too!

Ultimate Slacker!

It has been almost a month since the last blog update! Possibly my slackest ever! But i'm gonna make up for it by giving you a bunch of videos and news:

I guess the most important thing that has gone down is the Something For The Weekend comp, there is a whole section on the website dedicated to it now but I still wanna say thanks to everyone that entered! The comp has grown every year and hopefully will continue to do so! We had a whole bunch of prizes this year which although isn't the point still makes it better! We ended up with a bunch of decks,shoes,tees,stickers etc from Real, Spitfire, Nike SB, Vans, 5Boro and Karma - these are the companies that wanted to support your comp, so they deserve your support back!
I was pretty overwhelmed when we had 30+ entries, but a bit gutted when people started pulling out after one half wet saturday! You guys needed to have some faith! The ones that did lapped up the Sunday, which was the nicest day of the year at that point!
The standard of skating this year was awesome too, some sick stuff went down by the winners Team Vent, and you could see a bunch of progresssion by all the kids that have entered in the past, but I was really stoked on Team 187, who I didn't really know and who managed to pretty much shut down the infamous West Quay road gap!

Loads of rad videos seem to be coming out soon, We just had Deathbowl to Downtown, a documentary on skateboarding in NYC which is awesome, and we should be having Beware Of Sasquatch soon with a full cory Kennedy section! As well as This Time Tomorrow with a full Jimmy Mcdonald section.

I'm looking forward to the Jimmy McDonald section, the guy kills it on a skateboard and reps 5Boro too!

... was a pretty sick TV show, apart from the fact Fonzie was a single man who rented a flat above a family, and hung out with a bunch of kids younger than him, and tried to pimp on young girls, maybe he isn't so cool? Anyway, it is happy days in Southampton at the moment, 20 teams have now signed up for SFTW, and this years is gonna be the best yet! We have prizes from a bunch of rad companies and i'm seriously pleased with the amount of people that have entered! also repping our scene is the most recent Sidewalk, which if you haven't already you should definitely pick up, there is a 6:57 Silverscreen with four pages of south coast shredding, including two photos of steez master Jak Tonge and Pagets first two photos in a magazine, Bangin! Congratulations chaps!
I couldn't be more pleased for Rob, 6:57 has been really well received and people are starting to notice our scene, Rob is currently over in Australia, where he has managed to catch a few demos of Girl/Chocolate skaters, and was at a park when Grant Taylor and Lance Mountain turned up!

I'm pretty sure this is in Oz, all I do know is every single trick that Sean Malto and Cory Kennedy do would be 99.9% of skaters best trick ever, and they casually cruise through them at demos!

...is a skateboarders best friend, now that we have finally seen off February things are looking good for spring, I have been slacking on the blog as usual but FACEBOOK fans know whats up! Something For The Weekend is looking good, we have 13 teams so far and 5Boro have just said they are gonna hook us up with some prizes too!

I have been slacking on the blog again, but you need to get with the times and become a fan of our FACEBOOK! It gets updated everyday so you can get your fill of news from Reskue.

It was on Facebook in fact that I discovered the news that Guru, one half of the legendary rap group Gangstarr, has unfortunately had a heart attack and is currently in a coma.

Guru was always one of my favourite rappers, despite the groups name they often focussed on more pressing issues than just trying to be gangster, and a lot of his rhymes are really well thought out and flow through DJ premiers beats with a relaxed but meaningful conviction meaning you pretty much know the lyrics after one listen.
Guru along with Premier can also be credited with the idea of mixing Hip Hop with Jazz and bringing the music to a much wider audience.
I'm obviously not the only skater who is a fan as a whole bunch of video parts have featured Gangstarr tracks, here are a few of them:

This is from way back in 98, Kenny Hughes suits the music perfectly, and has one of the smoothest switch crooks on a handrail ever.

Here is another video from around the same era, Steve Olson, the quickly forgotten hippy of the OG Shortys era:

Here is Ryan Gee in Chomp On This, if you have no idea about Chomp it was basically a video that had sections from all the well known photographers and videographers of the time, as well as a bunch of appearences by top pros, hence why you might think this section sucks! Chomp was really really popular at the time and a bunch of people had the Pac Man drawn on their grip!

Here is a trailer for Static 3, the eagle eared among you will notice that this isn't Guru rapping but is Jeru, this was on a Gangstarr track which had a whole bunch of other rappers on, which obviously wouldn't have happened without Guru, he is really well respected by basically everyone in the Hip Hop industry, and the skateboard industry too, lets just hope he gets well soon.

Simpel Sessions finals day mega blog!

Sorry it has taken till today to get this up, we were all pretty much beyond tired yesterday! The finals day at Simpel was ridiculous and its all pretty blurred but i'll try and give you a good run down:
All the euros really came up at this comp, Nike SBs Tim Zom was killing it, Maxim Habenec who is on Adidas had the nicest tres of the contest and Eniz Fazliov who is on Alien Workshop cruised like only a Workshop rider could, like a euro Dylan Rieder nosegrinding copingless quarters! Biggest come up was definitely Adrien Bulard however, who hardly practised at all and pretty much lands everything! He qualified in the top three so didn't have to enter the semi finals and went straight to the finals. Kris Vile strolled onto the course holding a danish pastry twenty minutes after he was meant to skate, they let him take his run at the end and he just cruised through all his tricks landing everything, Vile is seriously good at skateboarding!

The finals were kinda strange, the runs were really short and basically if you messed up a trick it seemed there wasn't much time to recover, and most people seemed to mess up a trick or two, it turned out that each person had two runs however and Adrien Bulards second run was nothing short of amazing, he landed everything, including a tre down the stairs, the most hustled 360 shove over the driveway, a nollie heel over the driveway and a nollie front foot flip over the hip, all in one run! Americans seem to be hating on his Hustled foot on tres and shoves but they used to hate on Tom Pennys steez before he showed them all whats up, Adrien Bulard is amazing plain and simple! Tony Panici was some dude I hadn't heard of but he was pretty sick, doing clearance to nosegrind down the apex rail, Maxim could have done really well but unfortunately messed up a few tricks including 270 over the hip which i'm sure he landed evey time in practise, anyway here is the footage of the finals:

After the finals it went pretty much straight into a best trick contest, Johnny Layton came on and tried to switch tre the stairs, while Bulard tried a few times for nollie late flips as Tim Zom flip front boarded the rail, feeble to back smithed the rail and flip back lipped it! Some dude was getting really close to nollie back heel and Grove made the signature shirt off backside flip which kept slipping away on the ice like floor.
Overall the contest was amazing and i'm really glad we all went even if none of us did very well, Joe and Darren were definitely inspired by some of the skating they saw and hopefully we'll get a bunch of rad footage as I know they are both pretty amped to get some stuff done.

3rd place Sami Mietinen, he had to skate AFTER Adriens flawless run, so was pretty pressured, still ripped though!

2nd place Tim Zom, This guy killed it too, seemed a bit moody but was happy enough after his runs!

Simpel Sessions day 2, or 1 or something.

So at the end of the blog yesterday we were heading back to have a session with the Vans Europe team, it was rad seeing Pfanner, Wainwright and Vile skating, along with Madders Apse who is sick and Phil Zwijsen who did nollie nosebluntslides so so fast it looked awesome, I didn't even realise it but Hold Tight Henry was there and filmed a special Kingpin ten tricks:

Pfanners Half Cab the wrong way over the rail was amazing!

When we got there today we were all pretty tired and Joe seemed pretty nervous about his run, being first he didn't know what level everyone would be, I don't know if thats good or bad, he landed a few tricks though, including a smith on the rainbow rail and a frontside 360 shuv over the hip.
I was up next, unfortunately about five minutes before the comp started I fell pretty hard doing a boardslide of all things! I had a big swellbow and managed to burn a load of skin off on the floor, I had to pick some skin off the inside of my tee shirt, and when Hugo liard started his run off doing a big mosher tail drop into the quarter I wasn't really feeling it, and after I failed at my first trick which I had been landing a few minutes before I was a bit gutted and I couldn't really be bothered.
Darren was the next person up and we had been joking for weeks that he should start his run off with a boneless, I think due to nerves the board managed to slip out of his hand and he bailed it, but I think this just relaxed him more and he ended up cruising a few tricks, the old back board down the big rail and a couple of fifty fifties.
After seeing the results for the skating the judging seemed a little sketchy, Joe only got 5 points more than me and I didn't land anything! Other people didn't land anything at all and managed to get 160+ points too, obviously based on their sponsors, and an Estonian kid landed one 5.0 and got 190 points! But its all just meant to be a bit of fun and none of us expected to qualify anyway.
The general standard was pretty low at this point and I think it boosted Adams confidence, he started his run with a solid hardflip over the hip, stomping a 360 flip tailgrab over the driveway and sticking in a few tranny tricks too.
That was it for our crew, all the rad skaters seemed to come after us, Kris Vile had a pretty sick run including a switch bigspin down the big euro gap, a bs 360 kickflip over the hip and a bluntslide down the hubba. One of my favourite new skaters Chris Pfanner landed everything for the first two minutes of his run, including a smith down the rail a backside ollie down the stairs and a flip melon over the driveway, other notables included Adrien Bulard who did a ridiculously steezy tre flip down the stairs first try, and Eero Antilla who landed a whole bunch of stuff and Fabian Verhaugue who cruised through back smiths, back lips and clearence feebles on the big driveway. Also props to Ben Grove who puked up halfway through his run and still carried on skating and frontboarded the big rail, it kinda sucked that Tom Penny and Sheckler both didn't skate even though they were there, maybe they will skate tomorrow, J lay kept saying he was hungover but still managed to switch tre up the euro easy as pie.

There was a hell of a lot of bailing in the qualifiers, but looking at this edit there was a hell of a lot of rad skating happening too, and i'm looking forward to tomorrow now, thats if I can still stand up properly for a whole day! I have just come back from watching all the BMX too which was all ridiculous, it was really obvious that the course was just made for them really.
Ranny got a whole bunch of sick photos today and hopefully there should be a whole bunch more tomorrow, I have load of photos for the blog too, which I might try and upload tomorrow, but to be honest I hate laptops, everything takes forever!

Simpel Sessions day one!

We left for Tallin on Wednesday at 10pm, meaning we had to hang around in the airport for ages waiting for our flight which left at 7.45am, we arrived in Tallin at 12.30 local time and with no skating on the thursday and having all been awake for 24 hrs+ we were pretty tired, seeing Tom Penny picking up his luggage is pretty surreal! We tried to go swimming but weren't allowed with shorts, we had to have speedos! So we went bowling, seeing Joe Paget bowl is pretty much the best thing ever!
With the time difference we got up pretty early today for the first practice day, when we arrived they were still sweeping all the wood dust off the course, as the ramps had only been finished hours earlier! This meant the whole course was really really slidy! You can't even get a solid push without slipping and everyone was really struggling, not to land things but to rise away! The whole course is pretty huge, way bigger than it looks! Adam Keys who was in the second practise session had to watch us skate until his sesion and mentioned it looked pretty small, but after he skated it he agreed it was all huge! So bear this in mind when you are watching the comp! Jart pro Eero Antila was in our practise and was killing it, kickflipping the double flight with ease (which is huge!) Johnny Layton did the best frontside bluntslide I have ever seen clearing about six foot on the pop out, some euro on Adidas was ridiculous, nollie nosesliding the waist high ledge and back smithing it every go, Darren managed to learn backside 360 flips turning with it over the hip and me and Paget were just roling about finding our feet with our tramline tricks, heel shoves and k grinds then Paget tried a Frontside Bluntslide on the ledge, he fell off backwards which on a regular block would have meant him falling on his ass, but its almost waist high so he fell back on his head, I think this freaked him out a bit but we are going to go for another practise session in a minute and hopefully he'll be back on it, he still did a lazer flip over the hip and smithed the rail. When we finished our practise we watched Adam cruise for a bit doing tre flip talgrabs over the driveway and hardflip reverts up the euro gap which he would land every go if it wasn't so damn slippy!

The draw for our skating was up and there are 27 groups of 3, and only one person from the three qualifies, Joe is in the first group which is gonna be pretty nerve wracking but we didn't recognise any of the other people in his group so he could do ok, i'm in the forth group, and with Hugo Liard, who is pro on Antiz so qualifying is pretty unlikely! Darren is in a group with some unknowns and Adam Keys is in a group with Famous pro Kurtis Colomonico, you can watch it all live in the morning, I have a whole bunch of photos and Ranny is with us getting photos for Sidewalk so you'll see a load when we get back, we are going for a practise session with the Vans europe team now, Wainwright, Chris Pfanner, Kris Vile and Flo Marfaing who didn't make it in time for the morning practise, hopefully we'll get some rad photos and i'm excited just to see some of my favourite skaters shredding up close, the handrail is pretty much a full size handrail so anything down it is good, not many people really skated it today and it does show that it is more of a BMX course but hopefully we'll get some stuff!

January sucks, we can't even pretend its cool, no one has any money because they all spent it on Christmas, the weather sucks so you can't go skating, no new stuff comes out, its pretty easy to get depressed in January!
You guys need to be looking past it, you can still be skating in car parks - getting your flat ground on lock, organising trips to indoor places. Just think from now on the days are getting longer and longer, and spring will be coming round pretty soon! SFTW is coming in March and we'll be announcing a bunch of cool stuff soon, but in the mean time here is some awesome skateboarding to keep you inspired!
Oh and we'll have the new Thrasher which comes with an awesome free DVD very very soon, it has full parts from all the Converse team!

Simpel Sessions - small seeds!

I posted up about the Simpel Sessions last year because they had a live stream of the contest, Simpel is basically a comp over in Estonia (its next to Russia)which is mainly focussed on BMX but has a bunch of skating in there too, my buddy Mike Netley who runs Case BMX mag was going to be going to take photos and generally have a laugh as its pretty well known for the after parties as well as the actual contest!

Mike invited me along but I figured if I was going i'd want to skate the course cos it looks sick! I e-mailed the organisers asking if some of the shop team can enter, when they finally got back to me they said it was cool, and Reskue fam Darren and Paget wanted to come too so we booked it up! Then Ranny who recently shot Jak Tonges First Light for Sidewalk mag wanted to come to get photos and 6:57s Adam Keys wanted to as well, so it now looks like there is a whole crew going over!

Hopefully there will be a live stream of the contest again and you can watch Paget in his first major comp! We recently hooked Joe up with a Zoo York and Thunder flow so he is gonna be out there repping them and Reskue!

In the last few days it has been announced that Johnny Layton, Tom Penny and Javier Sarmiento are gonna be there, as well as Ben Grove, Wainwright and Ryan Sheckler! Its a pretty big contest for a few Southampton kids to go to, but we wanted to escape the miserable weather here and skate a rad park!

New Year! same slackness! - Romsey Park!

I just realised I have been slacking on the blog updates again! I don't know how many times I need to say you should follow us on Facebook and Twitter too but if you haven't been having a fill of news then here you go:

First of all the biggest bit of news is the possibility of Romsey indoor skatepark, while this isn't currently anything to do with Reskue as I have added a lot of people to the skatepark page a lot of you have been asking questions about it! If you actually read the Facebook page you will know just as much as me!

Basically Gravity, a ramp company based in Romsey who Marc Churchill designs for, are trying to get the biggest indoor park in the country built in Romsey, already even with that tiny peice of information people started complaining that it wasn't in central Southampton! One of the main reasons we have never had an indoor skatepark in the central south coast is that it is really really expensive to get a warehouse and get insurance, so having it outside of the city brings down the cost straight away, a twenty minute drive/train/bus is a hell of a lot better than a three hour travel to anywhere else so stop complaining!

Gravity are hoping that different district councils will club together to provide the neccasary funding for the park, which they believe will cost £1.4 million, while this isn't confirmed they have support from a lot of districts and as Gravity is based in Romsey there is the possibility it could get built quite quickly, however when I say quickly I mean months rather than years, anything to do with councils takes time, thats just the way it is!

The best way you can help out and hopefully get the park built is to add yourself to the Facebook group, e mail Gravity or councils pledging support for the project, basically anything to raise awareness to the need of an indoor park!

There is already some negativity on the page about designs, location etc which is ridiculous! The design is just one idea, and there will be loads of space for loads of different aspects of skatepark design, if there is something you do want in there then let them know, but rather say what you DO want rather than what you DON'T! Positivity is key here!

I personally think a foam pit is pretty pointless as only BMXers really use them and it takes up a lot of space which could be used for better things, however with the potential size of the place i'm not gonna complain too much as most of the things I would look for and would therefore want to be positively telling them about are already in the design! indoor concrete with pool coping! A vert ramp! But as I said if there is something you want then LET THEM KNOW!

People have also been asking some pretty stupid questions, such as is it going to be free?! obviously its not, as I said it costs a hell of a lot for places like this and thats the only reason it hasn't been done before! So please don't be naive enough to complain about paying! You wouldn't complain about paying to go to a gig, nightclub or cinema so don't complain, and you wouldn't expect to get in cheaper just because you are from the area, we are all gonna be really lucky if this gos ahead so compalaining about paying is stupid!

People are also just asking when this will be done, its impossible to say and would be pointless to estimate as it could easily change.

This really could be amazing so add people to the group! I have already added 400+ people so you should be able to do the same! The more people that show support the better! Leave a comment on the page showing your support for the project and hopefully we'll all be meeting up for an opening jam in the future!

Mike Mo

Fuel TV is a channel in America which has a bunch of "Extreme" sports on, these normally suck but they seem to actually do a pretty good job with some of the skate stuff, here is a show they did recently focussing on Mike Mo.
Its pretty much impossible not to like Mike Mo, the guy seems really humble and genuinely loves skateboarding, and his part in Fully Flared was ridiculous! Skatelab the park he skates in this video is out in the valley near LA, I went there a few years ago and a couple of dudes were just matching tricks for ages over the hip, they were two of the best skaters I had ever seen, but I had no idea who they were, looking back it was probably Mike Mo! I just sat down and watched them, which considering I was there to skate was a pretty big deal.
Its pretty scary seeing his brother in recovery from cancer, but rad that he is still about, he is pretty much Mikes personal filmer and like he says he pretty much owes everything to him, so thanks Vince!

A year in review....

When it is raining every day it is easy to forget how much good stuff has happened recently, and this year has been awesome for skating in Southampton so I thought I’d have a little review for you guys!

First of all the amount of videos that came out this year was amazing and they were all generally really really good too!
Here are a few little re-reviews.
If you aren’t too fussed about videos then skip down a bit!

Mindfield
The Alien Workshop video was one of my favourite videos of the year, the whole team are some of the most clean, original and stylish skaters in the world. This video introduced us to Jake Johnson, one of my favourite new ams, the combo moves of Tyler Bledsoe, and a resurgence in the popularity of AVE who absolutely kills it, and skateboarding from Dylan Reider that can only be described as beautiful. This video is bound to go down as one of the all time classic skate videos. AWS also tried something a bit new in having a book with the DVD and cool looking packaging to try and get people to actually buy the video, and it seemed to work a bit too. I was also stoked on how well Workshop decks sold after the vid came out

Zoo York – State of Mind
I have to admit this took me by surprise, I think this turned out to be one of the most underated videos of the year, I love east coast skating but thought since Zoo got bought by Ecko it might be a bit generic, but they have a team of rad skaters, Eli Reed, Ron Deilly and Matt Miller all held it down, and the older dudes like Donny Barley and Aaron Suski still kill it and there was still an east coast feel to the vid, even though it’ll never feel like the OG mix tape days!

God Save The Label
Pretty under the rader on this one, I love the label, Jason Adams is one of my all time favourite skaters, and Shannon and Chris Troys parts were bangin, including the fakie bigspin to feebs down a rail, pure sickness, but unfortunately with the AWS vid I think this got a bit overshadowed, the filming was all good and the editing and songs were rad, pretty underated again I think.

Fun
Again this took everyone by surprise, Powell is far from most peoples favourite company but they seem to know what they are doing when building up a team! Loads of power moves came out in this vid, fakie Ollie switch front feebs down a rail, nine kink handrails and THAT smith from Ben Hatchell, its no surprise that Jamie Thomas has poached Hatchell and he is now part of the Zero team!

Hold Tight London
I was stoked on this video, a great price that you couldn’t refuse and an independent video to boot, Henry clearly makes these vids because he loves skateboarding and it shows, loads of the filming and editing was better than some professional filming and the british soundtrack to all the HTL edits can’t help but make you proud of skateboarding in the UK, Tanner smashes it in theis vid, definitely one of my favourite UK skaters, and Karims mega pop makes an appearance, even after Paget stole his Sugar Puffs!

Extremely Sorry
I was really surprised by the mixed opinions on this, the video gave me goose bumps at the premier, Bob Burnquist was absolutely amazing, Rowley still smashed it, Luan confirmed what I had been saying all year and Gonzalez was straight gnar. Buteven with this a lot of people went on about how they didn’t like the music, I personally think if you can get Lemmy to record a new song specifically for your video part then you are on to a winner! A lot of peoples minds seemed to change when they realised that a lot of the songs had well known and respected artists in too. This video is also gonna go down as an instant classic, and I’m looking forward to kids in the future saying this was the first video they used to watch all the time.

Slave and Zero vids
I can’t really say much about these as we don’t have them in yet, but I have seen them both and they are both rad , Slave, like Stereo, are one of the companies we have always been behind, so hopefully like The Berrics has done for Stereo this video will show you all just how rad Slave are! Frecks is a beast! Both the vids should be here between Christmas and New Year.

Hesh Law
Does what it says on the tin, a bunch of straight gnar from the Creature dudes with a lot of focus on the street ams who kill it, Taylor Bingaman is sick and a lot of new skaters love Gravette!
The surge in park and tranny skating is definitely helping the popularity of these guys, I think the only thing people didn’t like about this vid is where the hell was Stu!

As well as this we have supported or put on a lot of stuff locally:

One thing that really increased this year was the amount of premiers we put on, and we plan to continue to do so! The Black Label vid, Heel Toe Magic, Extremely Sorry and 6:57 all had an airing and each premier was busier than the last so if you continue to support them then they will only get better!

We also supported a bunch of comps this year, about 7 I think, two at Hoglands, Two at Merryoak, Shirley Warren, Netley View and the yearly Something For The Weekend comp.

I have had a lot of people asking if we are gonna be doing a SFTW next year, I’m not sure what part of annual comp you guys don’t get but yeah, we will be doing it EVERY YEAR! Always around March to kick off the spring, its gonna be cool to see how much some of you guys have progressed that have entered for the last two years! We should have a lot more prizes for the next one too. This years seems like ages ago now but it was rad, the 6:57 and Winch edits were both amazing, and it even had the editor of Sidewalk taking notice of our scene!
I did mention at the time that we were going to trying to get a Southampton article happening, that is still going to happen at some point!

This year was definitely the year for the Berrics! A few people didn’t enjoy BATB as much as the last one but a few of the matches were amazing!

Busenitz is amazing!

The quality of some of the Bangins and Recruits have been outstanding, the only qualm I have the Berrics is that at the end of the day it is just a skate park, and filming in skateparks is pretty damn boring, street skating and finding spots and adapting to your environment are some of the best parts of skating, and I bet there are gonna be more kids just filming stuff in parks which is a real shame. The resurence in flatground is kinda cool though, if only for some originality with clips like this:

At the same time we fell victim to the weather and had a nice little block that we would skate when it rained or in the dark, unfortunately for me this meant all the time! A few people asked about getting invited to Level 3, you don’t need an invite, its just skateboarding, if anyone wanted to turn up and skate that was cool! Having said that the block has now disappeared but hopefully we’ll have an even better one soon and the Reskue training facility will be back on!
Level 3 RIP!

By far the highlight of the year has been 6:57, which you should have bought and seen by now!
The premier was rammed which was awesome, I was so pleased that so many people came out to support the project.
Rob Crawford has been filming Skateboarding in Southampton for years, and finally put together a full video, and its awesome! Everyones sections are amazing, i’m stoked people can finally see how sick Curtis style is, and see best nollie tres you’ll ever witness, but I’m mostly proud of Paget, I hooked him up with shop sponsorship pretty early on, and a few people doubted my decision, but he is progressing really fast and his video part is sick, to see how much better he has got in the last year is helping me know that Reskue is doing exactly what I started it to do, support our scene!

It’s looking like Paget might be on a bit of a flow deal from some companies after they have seen his part, which companies they are will probably be officially announced in the new year but I’d hope its like a Zoo in here with Thunderous applause when his first package arrives, he deserves it!

6:57 was also the catalyst of getting Rannys first photos published in sidewalk with Jaks First Light, he should be getting some flicks of Paget for a First Light in the new year, and it is rad we have a photographer that can get published photos in Southampton.

You may have also noticed a change in the amount of events we are sponsoring, and the fact that we now sell tickets to events, basically Reskue are now partners with Raygun Youth, a company that puts on Hip hop and Drum and Bass shows, this has meant we are able to get a lot more stock in (hence all the new SBs!) and support a bunch of local DJs and MCs as well as skaters, this will also mean that I might get a few days off next year and will be able to put on a lot more skate events! It will never mean that we are coming detached from skating in any way, in fact the more events Raygun put on and the more Paint and tickets for events we sell will mean we can get more stock in and support skateboarding even more, and it also means that you can get tickets for all the Raygun Youth shows without paying a booking fee.
We are even hoping to combine this with the shows and have some music/skate crossover events, imagine a skate comp with some top UK hip Hop artists there, it would be sick!

All of this is only happening because of you guys too, so thank you, the people that support Reskue! We'll keep doing what we are doing and supporting the scene, as long as you guys keep supporting us! This year has been amazing, and next year is going to be even better!

No news is good news vol 3?

So I noticed today that the daily updated blog hasn't been updated for ages! As usual that is simply because of how busy I have been! And if you still aren't friends with us on Facebook or Twitter then get on it! You will get updates as soon as they happen!
Here is whats been happening at Reskue:

First of all the premier for 6:57! It was bangin! Thanks so much to everyone that came down, I was so proud of our skateboard scene afterwards!

We got a whole bunch of new bearings from Spitfire and Bones, the two best bearing manufacturers no matter what anyone else tells you! We have also got in some Spitfire cheapshots, which are exactly the same as regular Spitfires but without a pro and with a basic one colour graphic meaning they are a fiver cheaper, seeing as most people skate their wheels inside out anyway these bad boys have been pretty popular!

We also got our first load of Fallen footwear, including the stupidly comfortable and skateable Forte in two different colours, the Chris Cole pro shoe and the ever popular Chief, including kids sizes from a UK1!

We got some rad Zero and Mystery completes which are going out at just £80! A bargain considering Zero decks are normally £55 and Zero Wheels are £30!

The 6:57 DVD came in on Friday and we have already sold loads of them! If you have any interest in skateboarding in Southampton at all then you should definitely got yourself a copy!

We got some sick new clothing from Deluxe including Spitfire, Anti Hero and Krooked tees, the Spitfire glow in the dark tee is rad! They will be online tomorrow, because I have just been getting all our new Vans stuff online! New Jlay flannels and an AVE jacket, and the Geo stitch hood in Cement, the last ones sold out real quick so if you like the look of them get on it!

Oh and we also have the new Creature Hesh Law DVD too! there are two versions of it, but the two disk one comes with all the old Creature vids too so is probably worth the few extra quid.

If you are wondering about Christmas posting times then tomorrow is the last safe day, anything sent Wednesday may arrive but is not Guaranteed!

Tampa AM and Tate Mode

So yesterday I worked the shop all dasy, then watched Tampa AM live stream for four hours, then skated for a few hours too. Tampa AM is so inspiring, Luan, Ben Hatchell and a bunch of other dudes were absolutely killing it, one guy was doing 5.0 tre flip out in his run! Stupid stuff! Anyway there doesn't seem to be any videos of it up yet but here is a video of some of the qualifiers:

Rob Crawfords highly anticipated DVD is now finished and copies are being made right now! I believe there is going to be a premier at Little Johnny Russels in Southsea Thursday 10th Dec, I'll post up a link to the facebook event when its up.
In the run up to the release the DVD is now available to pre order, so if you want to ensure the DVD gets sent out as soon as its in then get on it! We will also have the Zero and Slave DVDs around the same time too!

I have had a sneak preview of some of the footage and to say its bangin is an understatement! A whole bunch of spots get rinsed. Independent videos don't come along every day, and I can count the amount of professional quality videos to come out of Southampton on less than one hand, so support 6:57! There hasn't been any updates in a while again, but I would hope I wouldn't need to post up about the final of Battle At The Berrics, six million other people managed to find it! But in case you live under a rock click HERE.

We have had a whole bunch of stuff from Famous and Innes, both rad brands with solid skate teams so check that out in the clothing section.

Biggest news in the skate world is the release of the Zero vid, due in next week its snuck up a bit since the release of the Flip video but is bound to be ridiculous, and if the Chris Cole section is half as good as all the other footage he has put out its gonna make him a big contender for Skater Of The Year! Best news is that the Zero vid is only gonna be a tenner too! The $lave vid is also due at the same time, and is gonna show people what I have been saying for ages now, that $lave is sick! Frecks part is gonna surprise a lot of people and Jon Allie is definitely on my favourites list. The $lave vid is only a tenner too, so maybe pick up both!

We'll have a whole bunch of Zero, $lave and Mystery decks in just as the video drops too, as well as some completes for christmas for only £79.99, pretty bangin for a Zero board!

The Creature vid also premiered last night at Goblets and its pretty sick, a lot more focus on the ams with full parts of street skating which was cool, we'll have both versions of the vid in the next week or two.

ANOTHER DVD due is also Beauty and the Beast 2, the Girl and Anti Hero tour, the last one surprised a lot of people with how good it was, but if you take one of the cleanest tech companies and the most raw hesh company and put them on a tour together you can only get good results, that is also due in the next few weeks so there is plenty of rad stuff out in the run up for Christmas!

Speaking of Christmas we now have gift vouchers for Reskue, so if you can't rely on your parents/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog to get you the right stuff then you can always ask for Reskue vouchers!

In Southampton news the ledges at Hoglands are now finished and open to be skated, but if the weather is anything to go by you won't actually get to use them til maybe March! Hopefully we'll have an edit of them soon, if we get to skate them!

With all the rubbish weather we have been making the most of the trusty british institution of car park skating:

Hythe part 6 - Some Chump

So part six from the Hythe video was mine, I really wanted to have all street skating but unfortunately the guys I skated with at the time were more into transitions so I ended up skating parks a lot, not that it made a difference I pretty much just do wallies and wallrides anyway! I seemed to have more footage then Ranny and Tibs but that was because they both basically have no lines, whereas thats all I ever wanted to do, but after an hour of filming someone futily trying a four trick line I never used to come away with much apart from angry mates.
I kinda wish we had someone like Rob Crawford around at the time, who was eager to film an all street video and make it legit, we went back to one spot to get a trick of Pagets six times over five weeks! The 6:57 video is gonna be so good! But the Hythe video was just a bit of fun and hopefully that shows, more tomorrow!

Hythe Part 5 - Yankee Doodle

The fifth part on the Hythe video was from a trip to America I went on. We started out the trip going to DLX in SF, the home of Real, Krooked, Anti Hero, Thunder and Spitfire, basically the most legit brands in skateboarding, they were really friendly and drove us out to a skatepark and sold us a whole bunch of Spitfires for cheap which was rad!

We headed down the coast and went to the Vans park where we saw Christian Hosoi, if you don't know who he is Hosoi was probably the biggest vert pro of the eighties, he was getting millions of dollars at one point, but when the focus turned to street Christian quickly found himself yesterdays news and he got into drugs. He ended up being arrested for smuggling, and when we saw him at the Vans park he had only been out of a four year jail sentence for a few weeks, he still had his trademark style though which you'll see coming out in his layback grind!
You normally have to wear full pads at the Vans park and you are not allowed to film, but as they thought we were there with Hosoi they just let us be! Jeff Grosso was there too and you can spot him in the footage but he didn't skate which was a shame. I had a load of Geek Mafia stickers, which one of Hosois friends seemed pretty interested in, we traded a bunch of stickers and it wasn't til we left the park that I realised where I knew the guy from, it was Brian Brannon, the lead singer from legendary skate punk band JFA, we left pretty pleased with ourselves, seeing a bunch of legendary skaters first hand was pretty sick!

We then went down to the YMCA park in Encinitas where PLG and Buster Halterman happened to be, again they were really friendly and I filmed a bunch with them too, the consistency of Vert is ridiculous, that ramp was 15 ft with a ft of vert, and is stlll the biggest ramp I have dropped in on, doing switch 360 heelflip grabs on it is stupid!

Hythe Part 4 - small man big boards

Part four of the Hythe video is Mark Tidbury, he didn't ever say he wanted to film anything for the video and this is all stuff he pretty much did every go, I just happened to be there to film it, he isn't the sort of guy that works at tricks, he just tries stuff and if it works he'll do it. This shows with the amount of kids that are stoked on Tibs skating when they see him in real life, he is starting to skate more and more transitions and less and less street, but this pretty much goes hand in hand with the amount of good parks that are popping up, if you go down to the Eastleigh bowl regularly you are guaranteed to have seen him shred first hand. The part he is sitting on for the Reskue Remix video is bangin, and features a stupidly good NBD, but you'll have to wait to see it! The amount of times I have had kids come in and say "Is it true Tibs has done..." is stupid, hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of him soon!

A few people have asked about the drunk dude at the end of the parts, and yes it is Rob Castle, if you don't know who he is he is a sponsored BMXer who is getting pretty well known as he is on the Metal Bikes team, he used to live with me for a while and in true Castle style would come in pretty bladdered most nights, so I thought I would get some class quotes for the video one night, in between him puking in the bath.

Hythe part three!

Here is the third part of the Hythe video, the friends section, there is some pretty good skating on here including a bunch of footage from Reskue rider Greg Nowik with a double flip indy to fakie, I think he was possibly the first person to do that on a mini, and it was during a Vans demo with John Cardiel, Geoff Rowley, Jim Greco and a few others but more people seemed to be watching Greg than the street course, which says something about how impressive Gregs skating is! there is also some footage of Harmony rider Danny Jack who lived in Southampton for a while, but there wasn't a skate shop in town and I guess the scene didn't seem too strong and he moved to Bristol after his first year, Phil Parker also has some footage and he is still skating hard and should be having a part in the 6:57 video. Astro who had some cool stuff too is now strangely enough a professional circus performer, and was recently yo-yoing in a phones for you advert! It also has the legendary Don Brider in doing a noseslide to k grind! Don is now 40+ and still skates regularly as well as printing all the Reskue tees and stickers, basically he is a bit of a legend!

Hythe part deux

So here is the next section from the Hythe video, and the first full part, Ranny. He is now the unofficial Reskue photographer, at the time we filmed the video he hadn't been skating too long, when the Dead Babies promo was made he had only been skating about a year and was doing pretty gnarly stuff for the time, but was taking the slams that went with it! I guess he had been skating 3 or 4 years when the Hythe vid was made, he was the youngest guy we skated with so I perhaps bullied him slightly more than I should have, and that shows in the video! But he does some pretty good stuff and a lot of people liked his part:

Here is also the Hoglands montage from the video, Hoglands was a bit of a let down, we all said exactly what we wanted then the designers changed it all, it was meant to all flow so you could do decent lines but they put a bunch of barriers up which broke up the flow, then they put in a pretty crappy little block which you'll see in the montage, then took it out and there was just a driveway, then finally put in the rail that is there now, which no one seems to really skate!

Not The New Hythe Scene Video was a video I made in 2005 way before Reskue was opened, I thought I would rip the DVD and post up a part from it each day for the next week or so as it has full parts from Tibs and Marc and a whole bunch of other stuff, so to start things off here is the oldest footage from 2001 which was one of the extras on the DVD - The Dead Babies Promo. This was the first thing I ever filmed and edited, obviously its pretty dated now, but Tibs had only been skating a couple of years at this point which is pretty rad to see, you'll also see Ranny, the unofficial Reskue photographer, taking A LOT of slams! The backflip to head bounce off the rail required a hospital trip, nowadays he is all about cardigans and slash grinds.

Things you watch with your eyes...

So the Reskue Remix video has sort of become a bit of folklore now, basically it was meant to come out about, hmmm, a year ago! It was only meant to be a bunch of old footage of all the Reskue team remixed together (hence the title!) so you would know who all the guys are, but a lot of people weren't too happy with their parts "i'm way better now" etc, but the idea wasn't to make a whole new video, just to show you what the guys have been up to, Anyway Marc and Gregs parts are bangin, Curtis part is too but he wouldn't ever believe that, Paggers has progressed a hell of a lot since he filmed his part but its still sick so we are still gonna put out the vid, there are a hell of a lot of extras too, all the best vids from the Something For The Weekend comps and a few other bits meant I actually had to start taking stuff out cos it filled a DVD! Anyway i'm aiming to have this out as a stocking filler, fingers crossed!

After trying to film some bits of Paggers last night we kept getting interrupted by rain so went on a YouTube attack instead and found these bad boys:

This guy used to be on Hawk Clothing and had a bit of whack kiddy steez going on, but he is all grown up now and is actually dope, hustle flips and all!

This is from the same vid as Ricardo, and its pretty sick, the song is cool too, I actually bought that record before all the record shops in town closed down and we were left with only HMV to go to, its almost like if people don't support independent shops they close down, hmmm.

That should give you something to do while its raining! We have started to get a bunch of clothing in for the colder weather, hoods, jackets, beanies etc and should have some new Reskue hoods soon, Vans should be here this week too along with tees and hoods from Flip, Spitfire, Independent and Creature! Again the idea of daily updates seems to have gone bi weekly, but again its only because we are busy! This time with our Zoo York clothing, we haven't done Zoo before but have introduced it for winter with some sick tees, hoods, sweats, shirts and jackets, after the State Of Mind video showed us Zoo are still pretty on it we are stoked to have Zoo in Reskue, check them out from the front page of the site.

We have also been getting the tickets up and running, we have tickets for a whole bunch of shows but the fastest selling are tickets for Jehst on the 12th November @ Soul Cellar, so if you think you are gonna be coming down i'd get on it and get yourself a ticket!

The world of skateboarding is still pretty much blown away by the Flip video, there are pretty mixed reactions to a lot of it as more and more people are getting the vid but one thing that everyone agrees on is that the skating is AMAZING! Get informed over HERE

Another thing that people have been talking about is this padless drop in:

Alex Perelson at the Berrics, it is really hard to explain to people that don't skate or you guys that haven't been skating that long how gnarly this is "its only a drop in" a few kids have said, basically the commitment needed is like de-weighting yourself down a sheer vertical face, where if you messed it up you would basically pile into the floor, it is really hard to stay on your board because you are basically falling down the face of the ramp, that is why a lot of peoples feet fall off on vert drop ins, so if the idea of potentially throwing yourself onto the floor from the height of a bungalow is something you think is "easy" then I guess there is no helping you! If you are an avid Berrics fan then you will have seen on a recent text yoself that someone requested a drop in on the vert wall, and they said "no one is ever gonna do that!" the size of the transition is the hardest part its only a small tight ramp, that and the ten ft of vert!
Alex Perelson is stupidly good, anyone who does a 900 first ever try is sick in my book! But not only that, he isn't into the jock side of vert skating where you get sponsored by soup companies and whack stuff like that, he is a skaters skater and it shows because he is sponsored by real, probably the most legit skate company out there!

Eco Warriors! Crawf on the come up!

Some pretty rad stuff has been happening lately, firstly we got some THTC clothing in today, THTC clothing is all made from Hemp, Organic cotton, or Bamboo, all the labels are printed on recycled paper and they use water based inks for the designs, so for those of you that are both style and eco conscious THTC is pretty sick!
They also hook up a whole bunch of good recording artists like: Rodney P, Phi Life Cypher, Foriegn Beggars, Jehst and Beardyman to name a few, basically most of the good UK Hip Hop and DnB artists are down for them so we thought we'd bring some to Southampton!

Then 6:57 maestro Rob Crawford, who has been cheekily taking some raw footage from DVDs and re-editing it into new sections, got noticed by the chaps over at Transworld and one of his vids got posted HERE, pretty bangin! Congratulations Rob! A few of you have been asking when the 6:57 vid is gonna be done, when I can't tell you! Its up to the Crawf! However I believe it is aiming for a December release.

Then thanks to Joe Paget we caught a glimpse of Cory Kennedys new Girl ad, this is pretty ridiculous!:

We had a little discussion about how long its gonna be until people start doing flip in to a grind/slide, flip mid trick back to grind/slide, then flip out, its coming! Tony Hawks combo style tricks in the flesh! I reckon Cory Kennedy could cause a few upsets in the Berrics game of skate!

Nike SB and Spray Paint!

I would hope you noticed the change on the front page and the bunch of Nikes that are in the "New Products" section, but if not then yeah we have some Nike SB!
However we also have some spray paint! We don't currently sell it online as you have to use a courier service as its an aerosol, but hopefully we will soon, in the mean time we have 36 colours of MTN 94 for £3.85 a can instore, pretty bangin!

Happenings

So I haven't posted anything since we put the Flip premier on, it was pretty short notice as Route One were gonna put one on in Orange Rooms, but it got cancelled and was apparently rescheduled and played in Soul Cellar. However I guess a lot of you really wanted to see it again as Goblets was packed with about 50 skaters eager to see what all the fuss was about.

Thanks everyone for coming out, it was a really good night and everyone seemed stoked on the video, it was rad that we got permission for under 18s too, from talking to people afterwards everyone seemed most psyched on Bob, Geoff, Lance and of course Shane Cross.
We have already sold out of the video but will have loads more copies in by Wednesday, we also have a whole bunch of Flip boards in at the moment too.

As well as the Flip stuff we have the new DGK Kalis pro model in two sizes, restock of Harmony decks, the first ever Justin Brock Real board and a Krooked Koston guest board, bangin!

We also have a whole bunch of Innes and Rebel8 clothing, both of which are sick companies, we should have it all online in the next day or two.

The spray paint customers will be pleased to hear we have a whole bunch of cans arriving in the next few days, along with Clothing and footwear from Vans, shoes from Nike SB and clothing from Zoo York! we are gonna be pretty busy getting this lot out so keep an eye on the Facebook and Twitter to know as soon as the new stuff comes in, i'm guessing you all know Nike SBs are pretty limited so you need to get in quick!

We have been really busy at Reskue recently getting things just how we want them for you guys, after getting a load of bangin decks/wheels and trucks in we have been working on getting all the Reskue tees done, they look bangin and we have even switched things up a bit by getting the white tees printed with glow in the dark ink! So they look rad up in the clubs!
So to recap we got these awesome hippy tees:

Then we got the new Arch design on white (with glow in the dark!) and on black, then we got our classic star logo on green and black tees.
Tibs Jars design will be coming any day now on Purple and Green too!
The colourways were decided by our friends on Facebook, so if you want to have some say on what we have here in Reskue then search for us on Facebook and become a fan!

As well as getting all these Reskue tees we have been ordering in a bunch of stuff from Rebel8, Zoo york, Innes and Nike SB which should all be arriving in the next week!

And finally the Flip DVD which has been eagerly awaited for what feels like ages now is due in the next two days! If you definately want a copy then let us know and we can put one by for you, it is seriously one of the best DVDs you will ever see!

This video went up about half an hour ago, but we wanted to watch it and had to rewatch Rick Howards fakie feeble (NBD?).
Its pretty bangin though, and the good news is we should have some stuff from the Girl/ Chocolate/Lakai camp in the next week after a pretty long hiatus from Reskue!

People are starting to take notice of just how good these guys are, and i'm stoked that Paggers, Curtis and Phil are all repping Southampton!

Stock attack today! We got a whole bunch of new boards from the likes of Real, Anti Hero, Creature, Baker, Krooked and Bullet, and also the new Moonpop decks from Alien Workshop and the Flip P2 which both have a carbon fibre insert. We also got loads of new wheels from Spitfire and Hubba, a bunch of trucks, and the Black Label and Zoo York videos too! Phew! Also we have the new Strange Notes which you get free with any purchase and it has the David Gonzalez Flip ad on it!! Reskue is Bangin for this weekend!

I also did a new tee design recently, based on the classic hardcore x first brought to you (arguably) by Suicidal Tendencies, probably the most famous skate punk band ever! Suicidal have been on a whole bunch of skate vids, not least this section:

Patrick O'Dell, the maker of the Epicly Later'd series has made a music video of a band covering the song from Matt Hensleys Hokus Pokus part, and its rad! A bunch of awesome skaters dressed up like Matt doing some of his classic tricks, anyone over 25 will love it!

Hensleys part starts a few minutes in.
If you don't know who Matt Hensley is he rode for H Street and Plan B in the eighties and nineties and basically revolutionised street skating with a more working class eveyman approach just skating the streets, more recently Matt has been the Accordian player in Flogging Molly and basically he is a bit of a legend! He also started Innes clothing, which happens to be one of my favourite clothing companies (We should have some soon!).

Also a video went up recently of the bowl jam down at Eastliegh, nice one Geordie for putting it on, it looked like a rad day, and its especially good to see Jed back on board again! It is entirely possible that some of you guys don't even know who Jed is, he was sponsored by Globe and on a Real skateboards flow but has been injured for ages now, it looks like he is gonna be on the mend now tho and with blunt flip out on the cradle while he is still injured I can't wait to see what he is doing when he is back up to speed again!

I also made ANOTHER Reskue tee design, which i'm pretty stoked on, we are gonna be getting them in Green as it was put to a vote and this has come out as the most popular colour, here is the design:

I keep getting lazy and just posting stuff on the Reskue Facebook page instead of the blog, so here is a recap again!

Here is a rad little vid of Dan Plunkett skating a tiny mini, the triple blunt thing is rad! We were talking about how rad he was and it turns out he has just got on Skate Mental!
It was this Atlanta video that prompted the Dan Plunkett searching:

Then I posted THIS video of Justin Brock, he is one of my favourite skaters at the moment and has just turned pro! We'll have his board very soon!
I have also been working on a few new reskue tee designs, the DMC tees have proved to be our most popular tees yet, and while they were gonna be limited to one run so many of you are still asking for them we are going to get another batch.

This tee was inspired by Suicidal Tendencies, the most popular of the eighties hardcore skatepunk bands, Suicidal songs have been used on a bunch of skate vids, most recently Emmanuel Guzmans part in the transworld vid. They had a style all of there own and its a presence that is still felt today, Vans recently did a collab with them. Maybe instead of listening to the crappy Electro bands that are popular now you should check these guys out and get some roots!

FLIP!!!!!!

The internet was down at the shop for a few days so there hasn't been a post in a while, apologies for that.
The biggest thing that has happened recently has to be the Flip premier, it was only on friday but it feels like ages ago already, here is a little report on what happened, if you don't want to spoil the video then don't read anymore, the DVD will be available around the 15th of October.

The first Flip premier I went to was for the original Sorry at the Prince Charles Theatre in London, its a proper full size cinema and seeing it on a huge screen was rad so I understood when a few people were dubious when they heard extremely sorry was being held in a nightclub no one had heard of, and they weren't playing the video til half ten!
We scooted up to get there for about half nine and after getting past the five doormen and metal detector to get in we were faced with a whose who of british skateboarding all waiting for the video, Nick Death, Steak, Ben Nordberg, Neil Smith, Vaughan Baker and Paul Shier were all milling about but it wasn't til we left we heard Lance Mountain had been there too!
After Darren bought a warm Stella can for £4.50 we waited around for a bit before finally being let in to another room with a projector set up, the room filled up pretty quickly with excited skaters and the doors were closed, then we had a pretty stern speech saying if anyone at all was caught filming any of the screen, even on a phone, the whole video would be stopped! Some moron didn't take this seriously and was wrestled out of the premier by one of the owners of Flip, who had been travelling around to every premier with a single copy of the video in an attempt to stop piracy.
It has cost flip over £1,000,000 to make this video, if you consider all the hotel rooms, paying the pros, paying the filmer and editor, paying Baron to produce an entirely original soundtrack, it all adds up! It is estimated that they will need to sell 100,000 copies in order to recoup their expenses!
It is pretty much guaranteed that one of the Flip riders is up in your favourite skaters list, they have a team of some of the best skaters in the world, so if you want to show them some respect for the inspiration they provide you with videos like this, then you should definitely buy a copy! You really need to see this on a proper screen at a proper resolution, watching a bootleg version is just gonna ruin it for you.
Anyway, the video starts off with a Shane Cross section of bangers including the nose grind down El Toro which was rumored to only be a photo, I thought that was gonna be it but then it breaks into a full section from Shane, they had really been keeping it under wraps and the skating is really good, Shane would definitely be one of the best skaters out there at the moment if he was still with us.
Geoff Rowley has a pretty bangin section with some rad road gap to hangups that you need to see to appreciate, and all the footage of the ridiculous ads he has had for the past few years, one criticism I would have had is that you sort of knew what was coming because a lot of its been ads, but the skateboarding was ridiculous never the less.
Little man Louie Lopez has a pretty rad part and does some man sized stuff for such a small fella and has a good choice in tricks. It seemed like Rodrigo TX surprised a lot of people with a really strong section, he seems a bit underrated in the U.K. and he kills a bunch of Barcelona spots with some seriously huge switch pop.
Ali Boulala has a section with a few bangers in but obviously people weren't expecting too much due to him being in jail, ollieing the Macba four in clogs seemed to be a crowd favourite! Rune has a pretty sick section which seemed a little short compared to his Sorry part, but the quality of what there was was ridiculous, I would say you may have seen a lot of it in Thrasher but it doesn't seem like kids read the mags these days! The oververt tailslide is one the sickest things in his part. Luan, who I have been hyping up for ages, has a really solid part, not many NBD's but everything he does is super stylish and clean, and the switch crook fakie bigspin flip out ender is buttery beyond belief, definitely one of the best sections.
Appleyard seemed to be a crowd favourite as his part started, and he does do some amazing stuff, nollie biggerspins over bins and nollie big heel down Macba, but again a few people seemed to think his part could have been longer and stronger.
Tom Penny is a U.K. legend but i'm not sure if people were expecting much from him, he has been really low key for years while skateboarding has been progressing really really fast and while the current trend of bigger boards and smaller shoes seems to be making everyones tricks look really clean Penny still has huge shoes and smallish boards meaning there are a few tricks that look a bit sloppy as he has a few toe bars, some of the tricks are really clean though and its rad to have a new Penny section. Curran Caples has a pretty rad section but I think a lot of people still see him as a little kid, having said that his section was far from kiddy, massive street gaps which surprised a lot of people, and some really floaty transition stuff.

I have had to start a new paragraph in respect of Bob Burnquist, he comes through with the most progressive mega ramp part ever, I seriously thought Danny Way was ridiculous but Bob take things to a whole new level, the amount of people that skate vert is ridiculously small, but the amount of cheering and respect Bob had was amazing, I would like to point out some highlights but everything he does is ridiculous, switch flip fifty the rainbow rail, tre flip fifty, straight frontside flip (no grab) over the mega ramp gap! Just imagine doing a forty foot plus frontside flip! He frontside full cabs into the mega ramp quarter, which is insane, back 3 to manny over the gap, the list goes on and on, it is literally worth buying the video just for Bobs section, all the stuff at the X Games he was clearly just toying with while he was keeping all this ridiculous stuff under wraps. Did I mention the no grab 540 over the gap? or 15 ft straight switch frontside ollie with no grab out the mega quarter? Bob Burnquist we salute you sir!

David Gonzalez closes out the video and his part is amazing, he clearly has no regard for his personal safety as he flings himself down 25 stair rails, but he has the skill to pull it off too! By the time his part was on I was still buzzing from Bobs part and trying to take in all the ridiculous stuff he was doing, my favourite thing he does involves a line with two huge rails that you really need to see, he literally cemented himself into skateboarding as one of the gnarliest dudes out there with this part and I think any mention of kiddy steez or him being too young will go straight out the window once anyone sees this part.

Overall the video definitely lives up to the hype, after the mega slo mo fest of Fully flared it is rad to have a video which has a really small amount of slo mo and arty stuff and just has straight bangers one after another, no 9 minute three song parts here just straight gnar! Having said that all the filming is really good, the edits are really good and there is a claymation animation to introduce each rider which is pretty sick. Also in Shane Crosses part there is some rad animation that doesn't detract away from the skating and is actually really cool, I want a monket wrapping around my neck in a video part! I was really stoked on the video and it has definitely made me want to go and learn some tricks, which is exactly what a video should do, a whole new step of proggression in skateboarding and if it doesn't cement Flip as one of the greatest skateboard companies out there in kids minds then you all need your heads read!

Remember a few weeks back I was saying that the Black Box tradeshow was rad and ASR was kinda crappy, well I guess Volcom disagree and had a massive mini ramp at ASR this year, the skating is rad, watch out for some of 5Boros Dan Pensyl, Louie Lopez crooks, Justin Brock being alive and general floaty skateboarding!

Some of the Reskue squad are off to the Flip premier this friday in London, as I have always said we WILL do a local premier, but I assume in an attempt to stop piracy Flip are not giving out any copies for premiers until they are available to buy. So we should have a premier around the 15th of October and you will be able to buy the DVD that night too. More information on this will be up soon, i'll make sure you all know thats for sure!

There has already been the Flip premier in the U.S. and reports are that Bob absolutely kills the mega ramp and David Gonzalez part is ridiculous.
I'm still looking forward to Rowley, Glifberg and Luans part the most, Luans steez is ridiculous.

Euros on the come up! Nick who works in the Tattoo shop above Reskue was asking who Pfanner was the other day, Chris Pfanner is an am on Anti Hero and he absolutely kills it on a skateboard, hes the chap who full Cabbed the Santa Monica triple set.
Schuster is on Blind and had a pretty good part in the Euro montage of the Blind video.

This weekend was pretty good for skateboarding in Southampton, first of all Ricardo and Dean Jones put on a little jam at Romsey which seemed to be pretty well received, word on the streets is that Greg blunt fakied the Wallride, Churchills brother Paul was rock and roll sliding it, Ricardo was doing inverted 360's over the jump box, Taters was bigspin flipping the driveway, and Tim Bartelot was close to a mayday on the Wallride! Some pretty sick skating considering it was definitely more based on fun than competition! Ollie Allen who designed the T shirt with my handsome face on took some photos and they are up on Facebook.

Then last night saw the premier of Andy Evans latest venture Heel Toe Magic, there was only a few days notice and it was a Sunday but there was still a few heads there and everyone seemed to enjoy the video, Raemers section is rad and Greg has a full section. The video will be for sale in a couple of weeks.

There has been a lot of talk recently on Skater Of The Year, maybe its just me but people seem to pay a lot more attention to it these days, the Fact Silas won last year took a few people by surprise, but it is Thrasher SOTY so a lot of sway goes into what the skater has done for the magazine (Interviews, Photos, etc) so although everyone is saying Busenitz should get it its looking slightly doubtful, unless he shoots a bunch of photos for Thrasher in the very near future!

Malto is a definite candidate, he has been slaying it all year! He deserves something just for the Noseblunt then back Noseblunt line, but that was in a Transworld vid!

A pretty likely candidate is Grant Taylor, he is only a rookie but his part in Mindfield was amazing, and he quickly followed it up with an amazing part in Debacle too:

He has also had a load of stuff in Thrasher so its looking pretty good for him.
There is also talk of David Gravette, but personally I don't think doing 100's of fifty fifties makes you one of the best skaters in the world, i'm not saying he isn't rad, because he is! But he is definitely lacking on the tech side of things, maybe he'll come through with an amazing part for the Thrasher video and i'll eat my words but I don't think his trick bag is deep enough to be a SOTY.

Then there was a really, really, good skate and create. Basically a few different teams have the chance to create whatever they like in a warehouse over a certain time period and make an edit, Etnies won, basically just with Malto alone! That kid is killing it, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if a Skater Of The Year trophy finds its way into his hands soon!
A lot of people were saying they liked the D.C. one but I think the DVS and Etnies ones were the bangers, Circa was pretty rad too tho.

Then more recently there was a comp at the Crossroads retail show at Black Box, if you are retarded then I will need to tell you that a retail show basically consists of a bunch of stands from different companies, showing future products to shop owners to pre order. There used to be a huge show called ASR but it was basically run by idiots and they charged a whole bunch of money for stands, so Jamie Thomas has opened up the Black Box warehouse for his own trade show. This means that Jamie is allowing other companies to get sales, at his own warehouse! Jamie is really supporting skateboarding by doing this, and on the last day they all come together and have a big jam and best trick comp, here is the footage of the comp:

In fact while we are thinking of Krooked, here is the latest catalogue from Deluxe, it has a whole bunch of stuff, including vids, photos, and games! We'll have a bunch of Real, Anti Hero, Krooked and Spitfire stuff soon. Looking at the Real team has got me anticipating the Real vid even more! They have some of the best ams in skateboarding, and a sick pro team too, Torgy, Brock, Chima, James Hardy, all absolutely slay stuff on a skateboard! And they are all as core and down to earth as you can get, most of the Real team would much rather do a demo for some kids inspiring them to keep skating, than enter big corporate comps for jocks to watch on MTV.
